Belize and nearby Guatemala are the home to some spectacular Mayan ruins which rival any found in the Yucatan. Temples, carvings, ceramics, and many other relics from the Mayan civilization can be seen within easy reach of our itineraries. Slickrock offers a trip that combines a journey to the world-renowned Tikal Mayan ruins in Guatemala with an excursion into a sacred ceremonial cave in Belize, as well as an exploration of Belize’s Cahal Pech ruins.

Tikal is a "must-see" for travelers to Central America, with huge temples reaching above the jungle canopy, bespeaking of a civilization intricately organized and advanced in artistic expression. The most famous and most extensive of all archaeological sites in Central America, Tikal is located in the remote Petén region of Guatemala.. Visit our Mayan Odyssey itinerary page to see what we do each day.
Next, our trek into Chech-Hem-Ha Pottery Cave takes us into a world untouched since shamans sealed the cave 1100 years ago. Deep inside the earth we find more than 100 ceramic pots and a ceremonial altar in the furthest chamber. We also discover Cahal Pech Mayan ruins, the royal acropolis-palace of an elite Mayan ruling family who lived here during the Classic period. The excellent visitor center has a model of the site and an interpretive film.
We specialize in all inclusive Belize itineraries. Join us for the best Mayan ruin tour in the country.

This trip is perfect for families and we welcome children as young as 8 years old. Some cottages have a double bed and one or two bunk bed sets. A few of the rooms also have a bunk bed set in addition to a double bed. Children ages 8 - 17 will receive a 25% discount on the listed price if they room in a cottage or room with two adults. Please inquire, not all accommodations can accommodate more than two persons, so this option is pending availability.
Let us help you plan additional days in the country, we are always happy to provide advice. This is our 23rd year sharing the magic of Belize.

"The Mayan Odyssey was a great package tour. Maya Mountain Lodge was very beautiful with comfortable rooms and excellent food. The tours on the Mayan Odyssey ranked right at the top for our favorite activities on the trip. Our guides were very knowledgeable and knew their history. All of the Mayan Culture was so interesting. None of the books we had read prior even did it justice! You have to see to believe! We could have stayed longer inland!
Once we got to the island, we liked that we could go out together without a guide. We like to do things on our own and feel very comfortable in that situation, so it was nice to not always have to have a guide. The surf and sea kayaking were very fun, and it was really great to try and practice windsurfing. It was great to have quality equipment for all of the sport options. Not only to try different brands, but to fully enjoy the sport."

We can confirm a single traveler only when we have at least one other person confirmed, and the person(s) will not cancel without full cancellation fees in penalty. Please inquire about the status of the date you are interested in.
If the single traveler cannot be grouped with the other travelers in the pick-up or drop-off from Belize City, there is an additional $50 US charge each way, payable upon location. They will try very hard to group you with someone else staying at their lodge, which is why they don’t charge it in advance... they hope that they won’t have to charge you extra at all.
Maya Mountain Lodge is nestled beneath a huge rainforest canopy, but is also easily accessible, perfect for our vehicle-based tour. This friendly, family-run jungle lodge and tour company has been in business for over 20 years. The facilities are located on a large parcel of private land only one mile outside of San Ignacio. They have a beautiful dining pavilion, a pool, internet access for their guests, and carefully tended gardens including a vegetable garden where herbs for their fantastic meals are grown. The peaceful setting will immerse you in the daily rhythms of the surrounding jungle, and the birding is excellent right on their grounds.

Cottages at Maya Mountain Lodge
Your price varies on which accommodation you choose. Cottages are individual buildings with tiled bathrooms and private porches. The cottages are larger than the rooms, and some sleep four-six comfortably.

Rooms at Maya Mountain Lodge
The rooms are located in
The Parrot Perch. This raised building has seven rooms, each with a private bath. Each room opens onto a hallway that leads to the wonderful, community porch, overlooking the grounds. Our Belize Adventure Week groups take over the Parrot Perch during the inland part of that trip, and the porch becomes our headquarters!
